Did you know that before the Guillotine, people were executed, not according to crime, but by class. Upper class were beheaded, and lower class were, get this, torn apart by horses. There limbs were attached to horses, and then they were torn apart. Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin is the one who proposed "equal" death, as well as a quick and more merciful death. The one who invented the machine's name was Antoine Louis, and the man who eventually made it was Tobias Schmidt. (A piano  player) And that my friends is a brief history on the device of terror. P.S. the last beheaded by guillotine was in 1977.
